Thoughts for Friday

TGIF! Have you all be enjoying the 14 Days of Love Blog Train with my Creative Team? A Layout and Some Thoughts:

Today, I wanted to share this photo of my Sailor Teddies. The small one was given to me by my Sailor before leaving Japan, and the larger, I bought at Build-a-Bear over the summer to help remind me of him, and keep him close!

I created the border with a white Inner Glow on my photo, and little scatter Vellum hearts, like those in Twitterpated, appropriate for Valentine's Day!

Although this week hasn't been as productive as I'd like, I managed to do some scrapping, so at least I felt like I was being a little productive! I've been missing my fiance a lot this week, as he's busy with his job, and we haven't been able to connect as easily on Skype or email. I found this photo in my stash from when we first started dating, and decided to scrap it, even though I've probably already scrapped it on 3 other layouts! (Yes, I'm a re-scrapper! I'll use the same or similar photos again to tell another story!)

January Round Up!

Good morning! This month has been extremely busy, but also very rewarding! I spent the first part of the month in Texas with HNG and his family for the Christmas holidays, and I'm now back in Canada for a few months! Here's a little photo of the snow that greeted me in my yard yesterday! I am very excited to say, while I'm staying in Canada, I will be pursuing my designing full-time or near full-time! So far, these last 2 weeks have been both wonderful and productive!

Tomorrow, is February 1st, and the release of my new kit! I'm releasing it a few days early because my CT has put together a little "14 Days of Love" BLOG TRAIN for you! Each day, starting tomorrow, on a CT member's blog, there will be a freebie waiting for you! There will be quickpages, element clusters, stacked papers, and even a Timeline Coverpage for your Facebook! The journey will start RIGHT HERE (February 1st) on the Simple Girl blog!

This month, I've also made an extreme effort to get back to scrapbooking my own photos. It seems like it's been a while since I've done any real scrapping for myself. I find the best way to get inspired is to join in on some challenges around the digi-community, and I found a variety of challenges for me at Gotta Pixel, Scrap Delicious, Stuff To Scrap, Scrapping Fairytales and of course I participated in the Mousescrappers Scrap-athon this past weekend!

This weekend I picked up a couple vintage cameras for my future craft room! I am so excited about them, mostly because I only paid $3.50 for them both! They don't work, and still need a good cleaning, but I think they will look fantastic on display! Aren't they "purdy"? You can check out some of my other Camera "wishlist" items on Pinterest!

Color Inspiration & Disney Weekend

This week, I have been bitten by the bug to scrap and I've been looking into the digi-community for challenges to participate in to help inspire me! But even with all the scrapping I've done this week, the color challenges give the option to design a mini kit to share, and I jumped at the chance! With this coming weekend being the Mousescrappers Speed Scrapathon, I was definitely in the mood to create something with a "Disney-ish" feel, so I could use the mini kits this weekend! Coffee With Me?

Good Morning! You may notice things are a little changed around here on the blog (and Facebook page)! I've been wanting a "make-over" for a long time now, and as I expand on my creative endeavors (which have included sewing, photography, traditional scrapbooking, card making, stamping, quilting, and knitting) in addition to digital scrapbooking and designing, I wanted something a little cleaner in design and something that would better reflect who I am.

My Workspace Must-Haves

For those of you who are wondering...yes my laptop is indeed pink! I've always wanted one, but it's not the first I've had. The first one (below) was HOT pink and was unfortunately stolen when our truck was broken into last fall! That was a sad day, but I'm thankful to have had it replaced and it's still a pretty color!

I love to have color and texture around me when I'm creating! My laptop is pink, and a bulletin board is a MUST-HAVE item for my workspace. You can see the corner of my new board in my photo above. It's getting filled with fitness motivation and inspiration (Simple Girl Gets Fit).

Another must-have item in my workspace is coffee! Especially in the mornings (like today!). Today's mug is an oversized cup and saucer set I picked up at a thrift store several years ago.

In addition to my laptop, bulletin board, coffee mug, I also have my day planner, calendar and notebook on my desk, and always keep my camera nearby!

Good Morning! I'm so excited to be gearing up this new year, in SO many areas of my life!! In a little over a week, I will be returning to Canada, after spending some time here in Texas with my HNG's family! Although I'm not sure I'm totally ready for the cold, Canadian winter, it will certainly be good to see my family for a while!

Something else I'm really excited about is my own personal fitness journey and the progress I've made this past year. I took the plunge and had hired a personal trainer for about 4 months, and I've recently started a fitness blog - www.simplegirlgetsfit.blogspot.com - as a starting place for keeping myself on track, and to help motivate others! Something I have found that really helps me, is taking those awful progress pics... the ones where I try not to "suck it in!", and then I scrap them!! What better way to connect 2 big pieces of my life? Scrapping & Fitness, they go together!!

I had a lot of fun making this new kit, and I am intending it to be part of a series for fitness, health & well-being. Feel free to chime in here, or on my fitness blog about your own journey or post your layouts on the Facebook page! I'd love to see them!!

Happy New Year to all my fans & friends! I've really enjoyed having my HNG here for the holidasy and spending the time with him and his family. We celebrated with a little champagne and family time last night!

For the new year, I'm truly looking forward to all the changes that are coming as, well as the challenges. I will be getting married, moving to a new state, I plan to run a 5k/10k sometime in 2012, AND... maybe best of all, I will be returning to designing!!

Today is a really simple kind of Sunday. I love these kinds of weekends. This morning, I got up, and with some convincing of my body to cooperate, I went to the gym with my future MIL & SIL for a light upper body circuit and some abs, went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, and now I'm settled in for the afternoon to do some designing, wrapped in a cozy new blanket and sipping minty hot chocolate from a giant Christmas mug! I love Sundays!

I have finally been able to start getting my new laptop reorganized, since I had my old one stolen a few months ago! I'm so thankful for the friends and fans that have stuck with me these last few months, as I've taken some time to get caught up with RL. We all know it can get hectic at times, and while I'm not "officially back in action", I just couldn't stand to be away from scrapping and designing for so long! I was inspired by this month's Scrap Delicious Creative Junction palette (it's SO pretty!!), so I've got a couple things in the shop that are NEW (and a little SALE going on in my shoppe!!)

Important To Me!

It feels like forever since I've had something new in store! I guess that's all part of "being on break". It's not my favorite situation, because I CRAVE creative time, but this break has been something I've really needed, and it's been beneficial. I am planning a come-back of sorts, for the new year, and I'm already gearing up for this! Some of you may know that a few months ago, my laptop was stolen (along with other stuff), and a lot of my files were lost etc... My laptop has been recently replaced, and I'm still getting caught up, but I've found something that was previously released as a Featured 5 Star Digital Scrapbooking kit, called Important To Me, and now it's available at Scrap Delicious!

Good Morning! It's been a few months since I've taken a little break from designing anything new, in order to focus on RL a little bit. Good Morning Monday! I had such a crazy busy weekend! Saturday, we went to Natural Bridge Caverns and took a tour through the caves, then drove through the African Safari Park, before having dinner along side the river! After dinner we stopped at a few antique shops where I picked up a little something (I'll share that with you later this week!). Yesterday, was of course, Harry Potter! Have you seen it?

On Saturday, a friend took some new photos for me since last month, for my birthday, I was treated to a new haircut and color by my sweet MIL-to-be! I've been wanting to change out my avatars and profile pics for a while now, since I no longer have short blond hair!

Today, I wanted to share with you my "transformation" since I hadn't had a hair cut since last year's birthday, when I cropped it off really short and punky! I really don't think my fiance liked it very much, but I did!

For me, this has been a pretty huge transformation! I've had shorter, lighter hair for years now, and almost NEVER wore makeup! But now, I try to style my hair in something other than a ponytail (my favorite!) a few times a week, and even wear make-up!

This week, I am definitely saying TGIF!!! It has been a VERY busy week in digi-land and in RL! How do you like the new look on the blog? I'm also trying a new format for sharing the CT layouts, since there are SO many!! I hope you like it all! Leave me a little note to let me know what you think! I love to read comments!

Today, since it's the 15th of the month AND a Friday, I've got 3 releases for you! Creative Junction (at SD) and Soda Shoppe Color Pop (at DSDI) events both fall on the 15th of the month, and that means major savings for you! There might even be a freebie for you, if you make it all the way to the end of my post!

This month, the designers at Scrap Delicious got together with a color palette of Teal, Gold, Grey and Black, and Twitterpated is what I created for you! It's kind of elegant/romantic, while still being cute and lovey-dovey! If you're wondering how to shadow the vellum elements I've included in this kit, check out this tutorial I did for you!

I loved this kit so much, and was really inspired to scrap my own sweetheart that I am truly missing, since he is still stationed in Japan for the rest of the year while I'm here!

This month's DSA Enabler palette made me think of my new bedding here in Texas, which of course is soft and cozy, making me think of taking a nap! I created Goodnight, which is on sale this weekend for only $1!!

Tutorial: How To Shadow Vellum & a Sneak Peek

Hi Everyone!
Tomorrow I've got a sweet new release for you, but for today I thought I would give you a sneak peek and a little tutorial on shadowing vellum! This tutorial was written for CS5, but it's pretty much a similar process for PSE.

HOW TO SHADOW VELLUM:

Step 1: We can't select a transparent element easily, so we're going to make several duplicate layers, above the original layer. Just enough so that your vellum is opaque.

Step 2: Now, you need to merge these layers. You should now have the original vellum element, and an "opaque version" above it. Duplicate the opaque version one more time and bring it under the original. You now have 3 layers of vellum.

Step 3: Duplicate the opaque version one more time and bring it under the original. You now have 3 layers of vellum.

Step 4: Now you can "turn off" the top vellum layer, since you don't actually need to see it, we just need it to make our selections with. Make a new layer above your bottom vellum layer and fill it with black or dark gray. Clip the new layer to your vellum layer.

Step 5: Select your now black bottom layer and drag the edges outwards to make a "shadow".

Step 6: Select your top vellum layer (you should see little marching ants around it), then click on your bottom vellum layer. Hit delete or ctrl+x to cut.

Step 7: Change the opacity of your bottom layer to where you want it to be as a shadow.

Step 8: While the bottom layer is selected, go to Blur>Gaussian Blur and adjust the level to where you like it.

Here's my finished layout! I applied the same process to my alpha, because it's outlined in vellum!

It's kind of hard to think of Christmas when it's July in Texas! But I LOVE making Christmas layouts! I made tons of layouts from my photos of last year's Christmas in Japan with HNG. I love how the Santa Baby collaboration kit from Scrap Delicious turned out! It's perfect for baby pics or just a non-traditional color scheme album!

My Time in Texas, So Far!

I can believe I've already been here in Texas for 6 weeks! I feel like I've done SO much in such a short period of time! One of the best things about my time here has been getting to know my fiance's family. He is still stationed in Japan, but I came home about a month after the earthquake, since we felt it was good timing for me to leave. (For those that don't know, I lived and worked in Japan for 5 years as an elementary school ESL teacher! and that's where I met my fiance!). I'm really glad to be in Texas with his family, although it makes me miss him a bit more, I know this is a great place for me to be, and I really love it here! Here's a few photos of what I've been up to, when I'm not around digi-land!

Good Tuesday Morning to Y'all!

I thought I would spend this morning writing a little update of where I am, what I'm doing, etc... AND what's coming up this week! About 2 weeks ago, I came to Texas to stay with my Future-Family-In-Law! It's been a huge change, with first traveling from Japan to Canada to see my own family. I think I've definitely gotten over my fear of traveling alone! Last week, I spent a day hanging out around Austin. Most of it was actually spent drooling over the yummy and healthy foods at Whole Foods!

This weekend is my birthday, so my F-MIL (Future Mother-in-Law) is taking me for a mini-makeover, to get my hair cut and colored! I haven't really cut it since my birthday LAST year, when I cropped it REALLY short and my fiance didn't really like it much (in fact he hated it!). So it's been growing out, in tons of layers. Not that anyone can really notice, since I wear it in a ponytail most of the time!

What Inspires Me to Create?

I've got a little Question of the Day for you! If you leave a comment with your answer (and contact info!), I'll choose someone to RAK! (deadline: Sunday, May 29th @ noon!)

As some of you know, I do just about every craft under the sun when I can get the time/resources to do it! I love quilting, knitting, scrapbooking (with paper!), sewing, etc... I'm also a digiscrapper, in addition to designing! (psst! most of these photos were taken with my iPhone, so the quality isn't the best!)

Things that help get me inspired:

1. My Environment: My laptop, which is hot pink, makes me feel happy and girly! But around my room (when I get the chance to decorate), I like to have things that inspire me, like my little Japanese kokeshi dolls (that I actually picked up at a thrift store!), different stamps or paper, photos or little quotes on a bulletin board, all around. Usually having my paper supplies or scrapbooks around me can help inspire me or get me in the mood to create!

2. Browsing the Internet: I am addicted to Pinterest , as well as a few blogs I read regularly, such as Dainty Squid! Seeing other creative people in action gets the creativity flowing in me!

3. Color & Theme: I love creating with different color schemes, and certain ones attract me more than others or inspire me to work with certain themes or patterns. I am almost always drawn to pinks or teals and I LOVE polka dots!

Now that Chris and I have more of a general idea of when we are getting married (January!), and I'm home with my family, I have decided it's time to get back into shape! My sister has used the Beach Body Slim in 6 before, so we decided to give it a try again! I'm not really much for aerobics classes, although I like kickboxing based classes and yoga classes. My family lives pretty far from town, so it would be unlikely that I would go into town for cardio at the gym as often as I would need it. And unfortunately, one of the down sides to living in a rural area, is the number of farmdogs and other that are allowed to roam freely! While some of them won't leave their property and do their "job" as a protector...some of them (and I experienced this last week!), will come right out to you and not let you pass on the road. So...I will not be going out for runs as often as I would like. :( Thankfully, we have no shortage of workout DVDs, and I have a large space to use for exercise. Currently we have bands and dumbbells. I would like to get a yoga mat (something I could take to the gym for classes as well!), fitness ball and a bench.

I am so happy to be home for Mother's Day this year! I arrived home from Japan just over a week ago, just time! We let mom sleep in this morning, then surprised her with cake and cards before I went to church.

I'm heading off to Canada this week! I haven't been home in FIVE years, since I moved to Japan, straight after university! Sneak Peek and Pink Hair!

It's definitely spring here in Tokyo! The cherry blossoms have come and gone, and I'm really enjoying all this warm weather before I head back home to Canada next week!

I think I must have been inspired by all the pink cherry blossoms, because I ended up dying part of my hair PINK! I also added some blond highlights along the top! I have been inspired by this blogger for a LONG time now, and since I'm finished with my job at the public school, I figured now was a good time! I think once I get home, I'll bleach out my hair a lot lighter (just that peek-a-boo back section), and try for a brighter pink! It fades REALLY quickly, but I still love it! (btw, I used Manic Panic). Oh! and my T-shirt is from a thrift/variety store in Harajuku!!

All this pink and spring colors around me, inspired me to create this NEW kit for you! It's coming FRIDAY, along with TWO freebies!! (psst, make sure you're a FB Fan!!) I'm so excited to share this one with you, because I absolutely love it!!!

World's Youngest DigiScrappers?

Good Morning! I spent Saturday at a scrapbooking workshop at my friend's house, near Mt. Fuji (I actually worked on making you some freebies for Friday's release date!!). It was great to see one of my good friends here in Japan, before I leave to go home to Canada (the day is fast approaching!!)

Afterward,before dinner, I was playing with her 2 young children (grades 1 and 2), who also scrapbook! They had been watching me work on my laptop all day, and seemed curious, so I asked if they'd like to "make a picture". So I helped them change brushes/size etc, but they placed everything and chose what they wanted!

Here's what they came up with!! (while one was drawing, the other played Pocket God, on my iPhone!)

and this one totally cracked me up! When I asked him "what do these animals eat?", he replied with "seaweed, hot dogs and hamburgers"!

Facebook Hop! Are You Missing FREEBIES?

Hi Everyone! I finally booked my flight home to Canada!! I'll be home just in time to get over some jet lag, see my friends and family, then get ready for iNSD! Here's a picture of one of my suitcases! I love it, since it's pink of course! But it's going to be SO easy to find when I'm collecting my luggage at the airport!!

This week (in addition to me designing like a madwoman, to prepare to take a break when I go home!) , the designers have gotten together to have a Facebook Hop! For those who don't know what that is, it's similar to a blog train, in that someone will post their freebie first (in the form of a group update to fans), along with the link to the next designers' FB page! Now, we all know how easy it is to miss the start of a blog train, so most of the designers are also adding their freebies to a tab on their page so you can go get the freebies NOW, even if you missed the update message. But don't worry, because we'll all send another one out on the final day of the Facebook Hop (April 30!). Why not head over and "like" a few pages?

This past weekend has been CRAZY! For those who don't know, I live in Tokyo, Japan! And you have no doubt heard of the earthquakes and resulting tsunami affecting this country. I am OK here in Tokyo, where damage was minimal, but with aftershocks occurring frequently and possible power outages still a threat, it's been a little unnerving to say the least! My Creative Life: Happiness Is Collaboration!

Hi everyone! It's not quite the weekend, but I wanted to share with you a new collaboration project I particpate in over at Scrap Delicious! It's called the My Creative Life Project, and is similar to project 365, although this is a workshop that can start ANYTIME!! There is a monthly mega kit, and weekly "mini" kits, although with 3-4 designers participating in the weekly "minis", they end up actually being quite a sizable kit!

Busy Week! New Releases!

Wow! It's been a crazy busy week! First, find out that my dad is pretty sick back home threw me for a spin, but has definitely put me into what I call "tough cookie mode", since I'm on my own for the next little bit, while my fiance is away for work. It comes with the territory, so I'm used to it! Then, I managed to catch a cold (probably from my germ infested second graders I taught on Monday), which I was just praying it wasn't actually influenza and that I didn't get a fever, which the Japanese take very seriously, and I'd have to stay home from work (and lose wages). Thankfully, I'm feeling a lot better now, just an annoying cough hanging around!

Today, I've got the February 2011 collab from Scrap Delicious, called Love Struck, to share with you! I think it's turned out wonderfully! I was quite inspired by all the burgundy and browns and of course, my favorite: Pink!

Here's a peek at my portion of this mega kit!

and here's what I scrapped with it! I love the way my page turned out, and since that photo was taken around last February or March, I think the valentine's theme is perfect for it!

Next up, I have a new release in my store's at FaithSisters and ScrapDelicious, called String Me Along Alphas! I was working a new mini kit for a release later on this month (shhh! it's part of the My Creative Life Project at ScrapDelicious!!), and I was inspired to create this hanging, banner-type alpha for a LO I wanted to do with that kit! I won't show you the kit just yet, but I will show you another LO with this alpha in action!
